Six practical steps to begin — whether you're joining a group or starting one. You can take the first step right now.
An Open Invitation — You're Already Welcome
You don't need to have it all together. You don't need to know anyone. This is a safe space where every man is welcomed exactly as he is — no judgment, no pressure, no perfect-people club. All are welcome.
However you show up — just showing up is the win. We'll meet you right where you are.
Pray and Ask God
Begin by asking God to bring the right men. This is His work first. Pray for 2-3 men who are hungry to grow.
Issue a Face-to-Face Invite
Don't publish a time and hope men show up. Look a man in the eye and personally invite him. Courage is all you need.
Set a Clear Process
Decide on a timeframe (8 weeks, 6 months, 2 years) and communicate it up front. Men commit to a path when they can see where it leads.
Open the Bible Together
Choose a book of the Bible or a study. Read it inductively — observe, interpret, apply. Let God's Word be the teacher, not just the leader's opinions.
Create a Safe Environment
Set the tone early: what's shared here stays here. No shame. No judgment. Just brothers carrying each other's burdens.
Set Weekly Action Goals
Each man sets one small, behavior-based goal each week. Check back in the next time. Small changes, consistently applied, produce big results.
What Men Are Looking For
After thousands of exit surveys, here are the top six reasons men gave for joining a small group — and staying.
The Mentorship Void
The most basic need men have is mentorship. The entire New Testament was built around it — Jesus discipled twelve. Many men hunger for spiritual mentorship, both to receive and to pass on.
Deuteronomy 6:4-9
Structured Guidance
Men don't just want content — they want a process. When you invite a man to a group, you're inviting him into a journey. If you build a clear process, you gain men for the long haul. Men are faithful to a path, not just to material.
Like-Minded Community
Far too many men deal with environments at work and in life that are not spiritually nurturing. They long for community with other like-minded men — a place to be real, to escape the noise, and to gear up for the week ahead.
Strong Male Role Models
Men are looking for leaders worth following — men of character, biblical competency, and personal chemistry. Every Timothy needs a Paul. If you're a man others look up to, you are the hope of the generation behind you.
Identity & Purpose
Men get sucked into the vocational rat race and then rethink their identity and purpose. They need a safe place to process the convergence of their design with God's divine calling — a place that reaches beyond this world.
More of the Bible
Men don't want another social club — the world offers those. They want the Bible, and the God of the Bible, in a relevant way. When men's groups drift into social clubs, engagement drops. God's Word is faithful every time, and men want it.
A well-rounded men's group includes all of these — not just one.
Prayer
Begin and end together in prayer. Invite God's presence into the gathering. Men who pray together stay together.
Bible Study
Open the Word inductively. Wrestle with Scripture, not just read it. Ask the hard questions and let God's Word carry the group.
Confession & Accountability
Create space for honest confession. Check in and get checked — not harshly, but in an 'I love you enough to tell you the truth' kind of way.
Honest Conversation
Talk about how you're really doing — in life, marriage, parenting, work. Not surface-level. Real. That's where trust grows and healing begins.
Serve Together
There may be no better way to know the men in your group than serving together. Mission trips, local projects — the trenches deepen faith and friendship.
Mentor the Next Generation
If you've walked with Jesus for a while, a younger man needs your wisdom. If you're newer, a brother's been where you are. One honest relationship at a time.
"When men get better, everyone gets better. Men who grow in their faith and leadership become better husbands, fathers, and leaders who impact the church, the home, and the world."
